Your Home Could Be a Gold Mine

With owning a house, you’ve probably been focused on using it to pay off your mortgage, and increase your net worth. That’s great but, with home ownership also comes all the expenses, repairs, taxes, and of course your monthly payments to the bank. But guess what, you don’t need to be “house poor”! There’s a ton of ways that just by being a homeowner can make you extra money. There are simple apps and websites that you can join to earn that extra cash, so you can have a little extra breathing room in your budget. The ideas below can be a great side job and for those stay-at-home moms, or anyone else with some spare time and enthusiasm to try something new.

  • Living Space

For one, you can rent your house to short-term guests. That way whenever you’re on vacation, or out of town for business, you can be making money. Many people do that with their dedicated vacation homes, but it’s also possible with your primary residence. The popular app known as Airbnb is used primarily for this purpose. Basically, owners can rent out rooms, apartments, houses, and any other living spaces, to visitors who need a place to stay for a few nights.

  • Yard Space

Another option involves not even using the inside of your house. It’s one of the most ingenious apps out there because many people tend to not use their lawn or yard space very often. For this an app called Hip Camp was created to allow campers to rent out your yard space. This way you make money without doing any work. Especially for those folks who live in big suburban areas, where land is abundant, their yard space can become their best friend. So head over to Hip Camp and give it a go!

  • Yard Space x2

You thought I was done with yard space, right? Well I’ve got another awesome suggestion for ya. With Yard Yum you can rent your backyard to potential gardeners. Simply sign up, list your available plot, wait for local wannabe gardeners to contact you, figure out the terms (either they pay with money or a portion of the produce they grow), and let them get started! How neat is that?

  • Driveway Space

Another option is again not inside your house. You can rent out your driveway with an app called Parklee! Basically, you allow it to become a parking spot for anyone. This is wonderful as all your neighbors will think you’re rich and own a gazillion cars 😉 At the same time, you’re making money to have people use a space that you don’t need, as you’re using your garage. Cool, right?

  • Unused Items

An app on the rise for selling unused items is called Offer Up and is perfect for those that have a lot of items that they no longer need. For example, clothes or shoes that you no longer like, or maybe an older appliance or furniture. This app can be useful to re-sell just about anything. The beauty is you don’t even need to be a homeowner to take part in using Offer Up. I just thought it was great to mention, since most homeowners have a ton of unused things just sitting in their garage or attic, collecting dust.
